Course Description:
This course is a professional development/orientation course for novice nursing educators/faculty, which will be a one-semester hybrid course, using a learning management system (such as Blackboard). - Constructed for nurses starting in the education role in the college setting, specifically those without any formal education degree and/or experience in teaching in a college setting
- Course is to assist nurses with transition into the role of an educator from the clinical setting
- Online component of the course will be available 24/7 during the semester to provide new educators orientation information to the roles and responsibilities of educator in the college setting, including attendance, remediation, grades, etc.
- Course will assist the new educator develop a teaching presentation for a nursing course. Tools and resources will be provided online. Learner will conduct their teaching presentation in-class, and must include at least one online technology and one active learning strategy, for a selected nursing course/class by the end of the semester
- Goals of this course are that novice nursing educators/faculty will develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to manage students in the classroom and clinical settings, and novice nursing educators will fulfill the roles and responsibilities of faculty in the college setting
- Number of learners per semester may vary from 2 to 10 novice educators and a faculty mentor will be assigned to each novice nurse educator.
- Nurses transitioning into the role of educator/faculty in college/university setting, full or part-time
- Nurses who have no or minimal previous college education experience in the faculty role
- Must have a Master’s degree or higher for the nursing faculty role
- Must have basic computer skills
- Must be available for online and in-class instructional strategies (hybrid course)
- Nursing clinical backgrounds and ages may vary
